A Letter from the President

Teresa Inglehart, President

Welcome to the Tulare-Kings County chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). On behalf of our board of directors, we are proud to have you join our local membership of over 80 professionals in human resources and related fields.  SHRM of Tulare-Kings County is one of almost 600 local chapters affiliated with the National Society for Human Resource Management, a worldwide organization in over 140 countries with over 250,000 members.

Taking on the responsibility of President sooner than I expected in 2012 gave me a great perspective on how I would like to lead the chapter in 2013. So many exciting and valuable accomplishments occurred in 2012, and I hope to build upon them as we move full speed ahead into 2013.

During 2012, our chapter saw membership continue to grow and record-breaking attendance at our monthly luncheons.  With input from you, the chapter was able to bring new and exciting topics to our luncheons, such as, our non-profit community luncheon and Dale Carnegie trainings.  Funds raised through luncheon sponsorships and participation in monthly raffles allowed our chapter to offer additional member benefits without increased dues and allowed us to increase our contribution to the SHRM Foundation Scholarship Fund.

The year included our very successful suit drive and speed networking event, a newly added toy drive, a wonderful collaboration with the Visalia Chamber of Commerce, improved technology, and a presence in the social network world.  What a year!

In 2013, we have even more to look forward to!   In addition to the current benefits offered to local members, such as:  monthly luncheons with networking and presentations, a local annual conference focused on helping your career, legislative updates and training notification emails, a quarterly newsletter, and free HR job postings.   We are looking forward to bringing you more opportunities to get involved and make the most of your membership dues.

As a board, we have set goals to increase participation in HRCI-certified luncheons and events, increase learning opportunities about local and National SHRM resources that will make your job easier, and initiate networking opportunities for members to allow full access to the expertise that our current membership offers.

As President for 2013, I would like to encourage all members to get involved and make the most of 2013.  Utilize the opportunity to network; get to know your fellow HR professionals, and take advantage of not only the training opportunities, but of having the support of the SHRM of Tulare/Kings County Board, fellow membership, and resources available to you.  We are here to serve our membership and our profession.  Let us all raise our expectations and create a Society for Human Resource Management in Tulare and Kings Counties that can be an elite necessity to every manager!

Welcome to your new number one resource for supporting your career and profession!

If you have any ideas, comments, or concerns about SHRM of Tulare/Kings County or would like information on how you can become more involved in the chapter this year, please do not hesitate to call me at (559) 651-2925 or email me at teresab [at] vctile [dot] com.
